Volunteers

 

Limited operating funds do not allow for hiring of personnel in sufficient numbers to perform all of the duties necessary. We invite volunteers to assist in getting these jobs done. These services can be provided by the day, week, or month as time permits. We also have a room above the museum that allows out of town volunteers to stay while they are here.

 

1. Volunteer Coordinator: Responsible for recruitment, training and scheduling of volunteers. Also a liaison between Friends and Museum staff.

2. Special Events Coordinator: Assuming the responsibility of planning and executing all preparations for and conduction of special events that call for the use of the Museum and/or the services of its personnel.

3. Conference Liaison: Developing and maintaining an on-going line of communications and operational data with specified personnel, boards, or committees in the South Georgia Conference.

4. Docents: Persons to conduct tours of the Museum and/or assist with Confirmation Classes.

5. Bookkeeping/Accountant: Person to do simple bookkeeping; to advise, set up books, basic computer skills needed, under the direction of the Director.

6. Glass, Silver, and Furniture Polishers: Persons to clean and polish display cabinets, shelving and displays, also carefully handling and polishing glass, silver and cleaning artifacts.

7. Data Entry: To assist in cataloging records.

8. Clerical Staff: Basic computer skills for data entry and correspondence.

9. Librarian: Person must have library computer software experience.

10. Archivist: Must have experience in documenting, cataloging, and preserving historical documents and artifacts.

11. Collections Cataloger: Person to maintain permanent data on all exhibits in the Museum.

12. Exhibit Display Developer: Person to design, create, and have built needed displays for exhibits.

13. Historical Figure Developer: Person to assume historical figures.

14. Gift Shop Managing: Taking charge of small gift shop by ordering, pricing, and displaying merchandise. Maintaining inventories, keeping sales records, using charge card equipment, handling cash and making bank deposits.

15. Gift Shop Volunteers: Staff the gift shop during Museum hours of operation.

16. Web site Updater: Person with web site experience that would be able to keep the web site fresh and up to date with the different activities that the Museum is doing.
