Church Histories

One of our permanent displays that has recently been installed is in tribute to closed churches in the South Georgia Conference and in recognition of their legacy in ministry. In this exhibit are items given to the museum by the Robert McIntire United Methodist Church in Savannah which closed in June 2008.

This exhibit depicts the interior of a church with pulpit, altar furnishings and even a pump organ.

The Moore Methodist Museum at Epworth by the Sea would love to have in its archives complete histories of the churches in the South Georgia Conference.  You can help make our dream come true by donating any historical material in your possession regarding your church.  Items you may feel are of little value are priceless to us and can be used to share the legacy of your congregation with others in addition to building our collection.  We are particularly interested in records from churches that have either closed or merged.  So if you have anything you would like to share, please contact us at 912-638-4050 or email us at methmuse@bellsouth.net, or if you are in the area, drop them by the museum at 100 Arthur J. Moore Dr, Epworth by the Sea, Saint Simons Island.

We are particularly interested in photographs, historical data, newspaper clippings, Anniversary/Homecoming Bulletins, membership rolls, deeds, list of clergy, pictorial directories, important documents in the life of the church. We are NOT interested in routine records of meetings, normal bulletins, records of giving etc.

Please contact us if you have any questions concerning the placing of historical materials in your conference archives.

Please send those records to:
